melissa ellis - "the shape of color"

Opening Reception: February 8, 2025

1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Artist Talk: 3:00 pm

Exhibition Dates: February 8, 2025 - March 8, 2025

DHV is honored to showcase the works of Melissa Ellis - a native Texan, Dallas resident and established artist - for its first solo exhibition in its new space. Ellis is a renowned palette knife artist celebrated for her sculptural oil paintings and contemporary fine art. Over the course of her 22+ year career, she has mastered a distinctive impasto technique, meticulously hand-sculpting each piece of oil paint into intricate, three-dimensional forms using palette knives. These carefully crafted shapes are then applied to canvas or wood panel, creating dynamic works of art that explore depth, motion, and color. Through brilliant patterns and rich textures, Ellis' paintings evoke a sense of wonder, emotion and imagination in her viewers.

Drawing inspiration from her travels and the boundless beauty of nature, Ellis constantly seeks the extraordinary in the everyday. She finds magic in the small, unusual, and often overlooked details that surround us. These unique discoveries - from distant destinations across the globe to hidden gems of the natural world - are transformed into her luxurious and mesmerizing 3D oil paintings, inviting the viewer to experience the world through her imaginative lens.

In addition to her sculptural oil paintings, Ellis will also be showcasing her newest series: Beans. Originally created as a way to process the grief of losing her mother, it was during her time at the Château d’Orquevaux Artist Residency in France in 2023 that she uncovered a deeper meaning. After much self-exploration, she discovered that her Beans are not about grief, but about gratitude. They are a celebration of love, life, and the unique beauty of the relationships that shape us throughout our lifetime. A visual love letter to those who mean the most to us.

Join us for an unforgettable afternoon with Melissa Ellis - for more on Ellis, visit her website and instagram.

Kodama Charcuterie Boards |DHV for OLIVIA RIEGEL

DHV and OLIVIA RIEGEL Unite

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with OLIVIA RIEGEL, a renowned name in the world of home and tabletop design. This collaboration marks a significant milestone for DHV Artworks as we expand our KODAMA collection -A hand-crafted line that seamlessly blends art, nature, and purpose.

Each Kodama Charcuterie Board is a unique, handcrafted work of art, created in Dallas, Texas by DHV ARTWORKS for OLIVIA RIEGEL. Inspired by the ancient Japanese spirit of Kodama, which is said to inhabit trees, these boards are designed to honor nature, blending beauty with function. Legend has it that the spirit of Kodama brings good fortune when trees are repurposed with respect and care.

Made from rich black walnut, each charcuterie board is adorned with a selection of minerals, stones, crystals, and glass, making every piece truly one-of-a-kind. The underside is hand-signed by the artist, ensuring your functional art is a rare and meaningful treasure.

A Connection to Nature

With each Board you invite not only the beauty of nature but also the fortune of Kodama into your home.
